Monumentally Reclining
Caterina Tognon presents “Monumentally Reclining”, an exhibition by Paul Noble bringing together sculptures, drawings and the textile work “Screen Nest”, and tracing the artist’s long engagement with Henry Moore. In Venice, a city closely associated with Moore’s recognition after receiving the International Prize for Sculpture at the 24th Venice Biennale in 1948, Noble reconsiders this legacy through forms that replace monumentality and harmony with instability, decline and transformation.
Balancing homage and parody, the exhibition presents works ranging from detailed drawings to biomorphic ceramics. Across them, Noble examines the body, materiality and sculptural form through an approach that unsettles modernist ideals and introduces a more ambiguous and disenchanted perspective.
