Nikima Jagudajev: Like/ Rachel Youn
On the occasion of the Biennale, Scuola Piccola Zattere presents two distinct exhibitions curated by Irene Calderoni, by artists currently in residence at SZP.
Nikima Jagudajev (1990) is an artist and choreographer born in the United States, of Austrian and Uzbek heritage. Their performative practice operates as a collaborative act of world-building, in which unexpected encounters emerge through structures often resembling games. Jagudajev works with materials assembled into counter-normative infrastructures. At Scuola Piccola Zattere, they develop a new work, a hybrid documentary and video game entitled “Like”.
Rachel Youn (Abington, USA, 1994) has presented solo exhibitions at Night Gallery (Los Angeles), Sargent’s Daughters (New York), G Gallery (Seoul) and Soy Capitán (Berlin), among others. She has also participated in numerous group exhibitions including Fondazione Sandretto Re Rebaudengo (Turin), FuoriCampo (Siena), Kunsthalle Barmen (Wuppertal), DOX Centre for Contemporary Art (Prague), Alice Amati (London), PODIUM (Hong Kong), The Aldrich Contemporary Art Museum (Ridgefield, CT), SHRINE (New York), Gallery Belenius (Stockholm) and Contemporary Arts Center (Cincinnati), among others. She has received the Lighthouse Works Fellowship, the Vermont Studio Center Fellowship and the Great Rivers Biennial Award 2020. She holds a BFA from the Sam Fox School of Design & Visual Arts at Washington University in St. Louis and an MFA from the Yale School of Art in New Haven. Her work has been reviewed in Art in America, Artsy, ARTnews, Vogue, LA Review of Books, Artillery Magazine and Elephant, among others.
