Omar Hassan: Do Ut Des

Chiesetta della Misericordia, Campo de l'Abazia, 3550

Alberto Peruzzo Foundation in collaboration with ContiniArtUK presents “Do Ut Des”, the first solo show of the Italian-Egyptian artist Omar Hassan on the occasion of the 57th Venice Biennale.

The exhibition at Chiesetta della Misericordia consists of large scale site-specific works aiming to investigate the relationship between sculpture and painting, classical and contemporary art.

Spray-painted dots, recognizable as Hassan’s signature, best express this research in the Nike of Samothrace, in which the sculpture camouflages itself with the painting, and in the rose window in the façade, reflecting colored dots within the church by daylight.

Omar Hassan also revisits, in a bigger scale, other series of works as “Injections” and “Breaking Through”, positioned in medieval niches, and his new “Irripetibili” series in which he reflects on the imperfect process of repetition.
