Pavlina Vagioni: Oikeiōsis

Spazio Tana, Castello 2127/A

“Oikeiōsis” is a solo exhibition of new work by Pavlina Vagioni, presented by the Hellenic Diaspora Foundation at Spazio Tana on the occasion of the 61st Biennale Arte. Curated by Dr Laura Augusta, the project draws on the ancient Stoic concept of expanding circles of care, from the self to a broader sense of shared belonging.

Across two rooms, the exhibition unfolds as a multisensory environment combining light, sound and spatial installation. It proposes a transition from isolation to kinship, engaging visitors in a participatory experience. Vagioni’s practice integrates mythological and philosophical references with a contemporary visual and sonic language, using materials such as light, reflection, sound and salt.

The first room, “Neikos”, presents a reflective structure that fragments the viewer’s image, addressing themes of division. The second, “Philotes”, centres on a circular arrangement of rock-salt seats surrounding a mirrored structure. Here, sound and light respond to the presence of visitors, activating a layered vocal composition by the artist. The installation incorporates acoustic phenomena such as the “Tartini effect”, where combined frequencies generate an additional perceived tone.

The exhibition situates ancient philosophical ideas within a contemporary framework, focusing on co-presence, shared experience and the material traces of interaction.
