Peggy Guggenheim. The Last Dogaressa
Peggy Guggenheim Collection, Dorsoduro 701, Venice, Italy
The exhibition gathers significant pieces to retrace Peggy Guggenheim‘s Venetian life, after she closed her museum-gallery “Art of This Century” in New York to move to Venice in 1948. The exhibition features a selection of paintings, sculptures and works on paper which she acquired from the late 1940s until 1979, the year in which she passed away. The pieces on view mark the milestones of her artistic life, demonstrating her interest in art beyond Europe and the Unites States. Between the highlights of “Peggy Guggenheim. The Last Dogaressa”, René Magritte’s “Empire of Light” (1953–54) alongside rarely exhibited pieces by René Brô, Gwyther Irwin, Grace Hartigan, Kenzo Okada and Tomonori Toyofuku, to name but a few.
