Sher Ding: Boundlessness
With their simple, repetitive curves, Sher Ding’s ink-wash paintings demonstrate a refining process of the abstract language. His art is a combination of abstract construction and individual emotions, preserving clear oriental features and Chinese symbols. Sher Ding uses writing techniques to demonstrate his viewpoint and express his emotions. He believes that when studying traditional Chinese culture, the current context can never be overlooked.
The reason why he chooses an abstract style is that “Shanghai is crowded, huge and fast, hence I cannot record its changes through concrete content and images; rather, I have to use the most direct abstract painting to record what I see and what I feel.” The exhibition is organised and produced in collaboration with We Exhibit.
