Three British Mosques
A collaboration between La Biennale di Venezia and Victoria and Albert Museum, London
The project marks the fifth year of the Applied Arts Pavilion Special Project and V&A’s collaboration with La Biennale di Venezia. It explores the contemporary multiculturalism through three adapted mosque spaces in London. Collaborating with author and architect Shahed Saleem, the pavilion looks at the self-built and often undocumented world of adapted mosques. Three case studies examine the Brick Lane mosque; Old Kent Road mosque; and Harrow Central mosque. The pavilion, curated by Dr Christopher Turner and Dr Ella Kilgallon, is carpeted, as in a mosque, and these stories are explored through 3D architectural reconstructions, filmed interviews and photographs.
