Venetia 1600: Births and rebirths

The show aims to enhance the rich historical, artistic and cultural heritage from local museums, libraries and archives, first of all that of the collections of the Musei Civici di Venezia.

Palazzo Ducale, Piazza San Marco 1, Venice, Italy

To celebrate the 1600 year-anniversary of The Republic of Venice, Palazzo Ducale presents the exhibition “VENETIA 1600. Births and rebirths”, offering an unprecedented reading of the history of the Serenissima that identifies an innovative interpretative model with its concept of birth and rebirth to decipher its past, for reflecting on a possible, optimistic future of the city.

The show exhibits works by some of the greatest artists, architects and men of letters who worked in the lagoon over the past millennium, including important paintings by Carpaccio, Tiziano, Tiepolo, Canaletto, Guardi and many others, as well as a selection of miniatures, drawings, fabrics, sculptures, ceramics, architectural models, glass and everyday objects. Particular attention will be given to some of the most representative monuments in the city, such as the church of San Giacomo di Rialto, St. Mark’s Basilica, the Rialto Bridge, the Fondaco dei Tedeschi, the Doge’s Palace, the churches of the Redentore and Santa Maria della Salute, the Gran Teatro La Fenice theatre and the Bell Tower of St. Mark’s Square, up to and including the major museums and cultural institutions of contemporary Venice.
