Willem de Kooning e l’Italia

Gallerie dell’Accademia di Venezia presents “Willem de Kooning e l’Italia” curated by Gary Garrels and Mario Codognato, in collaboration with the Willem de Kooning Foundation.

An exhibition dedicated to one of the most innovative and influential artists of the twentieth century explores for the first time the impact of de Kooning’s two Italian sojourns, in 1959 and 1969, on his work. His Italian production and the influence of the country on his subsequent paintings, drawings, and sculptures have never been thoroughly considered before. The lasting effect of these two creative periods is revealed through an exemplary selection of works spanning from the late 1950s to the 1980s.
