Hernan Bas: Bloomsbury Revisited

Peter Kilchmann Zurich, Zahnradstrasse 21, Zurich, Switzerland

The gallery presents a solo exhibition by the American artist who creates works born of literary intrigue and tinged with nihilistic romanticism and old world imagery. His paintings and works on paper are both narrative and pictorial, influenced by his fantasies with aesthetic and decadent writers of the 19th century, such as Oscar Wilde or Joris-Karl Huysman. He often displays protagonists that seem lost, as if in a game of their own making.
The show presents three large-scale as well as four small acrylic on canvases, and six works on paper which takes the viewer on a journey through history, poetry, mythology and literature.
