The exhibition at Peter Kilchmann, Zürich, celebrates British artist, curator and co-founder of the art magazine Artforum John Coplans‘ work. In his memory, a selection of fourteen original vintage prints is on view, alongside the presentation of the American artist Paul Mpagi Sepuya, creating a juxtaposition of two interesting artistic positions from different eras.
Coplans’ works date from 1992-1999 and are selected from his well-known series of black and white self-portraits, which he initiated in the early 1980s. The pictures unveil the motive of the ageing body represented in an atmosphere of vulnerable intimacy. The exhibition opens simultaneously with Zurich Art Weekend.
