The Museum Haus Konstruktiv is dedicating a comprehensive solo exhibition to the Mexican artist Jose Dávila. In addition to selected new paintings, a large number of sculptural works will be on display, which Dávila assembles into surprising work ensembles in a careful examination of the architectural conditions of the museum. Jose Dávila is interested in space and mass as well as mathematical laws and physical phenomena. And so the play with gravity and apparent weightlessness, with statics and dynamics, tension and compression forces as well as those unstable moments before something collapses are among the characteristics of his work. In addition, he incorporates natural and industrially manufactured materials; their juxtaposition gives rise to poetic works that are as sensually captivating as they are structurally formulated.
“Memory of a Telluric Movement” is the title of the exhibition at Museum Haus Konstruktiv. Jose Dávila‘s sensitive calibration of mass and lightness, volume and transparency, geometric and organic forms, natural and industrial materials distinguishes his unmistakable objects, installations and paintings. At the same time, the presentation at Haus Konstruktiv reminds us that any (tel-luric) movement, no matter how small, can cause a well-balanced structure to collapse. In this sense, the solo show also refers to the global situation, which can quickly become unbalanced due to socio-political, ecological and economic developments.
