Luchita Hurtado: Just Down the Street
The exhibition "Just Down the Street" presents a selection of Luchita Hurtado’s early works from the 1960s
Born in Maiquetía, Venezuela, in 1920, Luchita Hurtado has dedicated her painting and drawing practice to the investigation of universality and transcendence focusing on the interconnectedness of the natural world, the cosmos and the environment.
In the inaugural presentation of the exhibition “Just Down the Street” at Hauser & Wirth in Zürich is presented a selection of Hurtado’s early works from the 1960s, including drawings and paintings that reflect a moment of flux between abstraction and figuration.
Still working at the age of 99, her extensive eighty-year career touches various artistic movements and styles. The 1960s signalled an evolution and fluid shift towards representation in the artist’s practice marking a new trajectory to uncover forms of self-portraiture in the late 1960s and 1970s.
