Maja Bajevic: Power, Governance, Labor

Migros Museum für Gegenwartskunst, Limmatstrasse 270, 8005 Zürich, Switzerland

The gallery presents a solo show by the French-Bosnian artist, with her works from the last ten years on display that focus on themes such as globalisation, inclusion/ exclusion, exploitation, neo-liberalism and their reciprocal effects. Raising the inner conflict of personal identity, her paintings often depict the discourse between local and global, power and religion, migration and homeland.

A recurring theme in her artistic analysis is the exercise of power by political, economic, and religious authorities and how their mechanisms of control become inscribed and entrenched in individual worldviews. Bajevic often uses political slogans and propaganda catchwords to undermine the fields of tension she aims to demonstrate.
