Gwangju Biennale
Asia's oldest biennial of contemporary art.
Founded in 1995 in memory of the civil uprising and the 1980 Gwangju Democratization Movement, the Gwangju Biennale is Asia’s most prestigious biennial of contemporary art. It functions as a network for international cultural exchanges and a platform for the visual arts promoting South Korean artists within an international environment which attracts collectors, journalists and curators.
The Gwangju Biennale Foundation is led by president Kim Sun-jung, a South Korean curator.
