Basel Social Club 2025

Basel Social Club returns for its fourth edition, taking place in a historic townhouse in the heart of Grossbasel. Formerly a private bank with over 100 rooms, the building serves as the setting for the week-long event. Basel Social Club is the first initiative to open these premises to the public, marking the beginning of the building’s activation by FOR ART—a long-term project led by Klaus Littmann aimed at revitalising the vacant property on Rittergasse through artistic and cultural interventions until the end of 2028.

The curation at Basel Social Club draws on the historical context of the venue and explores themes related to systems of value, commerce, and exchange. The result is a dynamic and evolving presentation where traditional distinctions between currency and care, luxury and necessity, spectacle and service are reconsidered. Rooms are repurposed into themed environments focused on topics such as jewellery, chess, and healing. Artists and attendants contribute equally to the programme, which is shaped by a curatorial approach grounded in collaboration, artistic freedom, and community engagement.

What begins as a one-off event develops into a non-profit platform that challenges conventional formats and supports experimental practices. Basel Social Club remains free of charge and open to all. Further details regarding the programme and participating artists will be announced in due course.
