Design Miami/ Basel 2016: Galleries

Over 40 of the wold’s best design galleries participate in this year’s programming, presenting a variety of works from both emerging and iconic designers from around the globe including several stand-out solo exhibitions.

Design Miami/ returns to Basel for the eleventh time with a highly-focused program that speaks to the fair’s maturation and reaffirms the thought-leadership of participating galleries.

In addition to select new exhibitors – including Galerie Alain Marcelpoil from Paris, MANIERA from Brussels and Gate 5 from Monaco – the returning galleries at Design Miami/ prove yet again that they are the world’s leading experts in collectible design with robust offerings that encompass a century of design movements, including Jugendstil, Art Nouveau, Art Deco, De Stijl, French Post War, Italian Post War, Scandinavian Mid-Century, Modern, American and Contemporary.

Solo exhibitions have a notable presence at Design Miami/ Basel 2016: Elisabetta Cipriani offers the first pieces of wearable design ever created by Chinese artist and activist Ai Weiwei in a scenography also devised by the artist; Friedman Benda presents an exploration of the works of Dutch designer Joris Laarman; Galerie Eric Philippe offers two solo exhibits of Nordic designers Axel Einar Hjorth and Paavo Tynell and the works of French Art Deco designer André Sornay will be presented by newcomer Galerie Alain Marcelpoil.
