The Solo Project 2016
This year the “the-solo-project” is based in Dreispitzhalle on the new and fancy Basel Art Campus at Helsinki-Strasse 5 (Dreispitz).
the-solo-project was founded in 2008 by Paul Kusseneers, director of Kusseneers Gallery in Brussels, with the ambition of offering a sophisticated and engaging new model of art fair. Each presentation at the fair is a solo exhibition, in order to give the opportunity to fully engage with artists and their works. Like in a museum setting, collectors, curators and art lovers are offered an in-depth understanding of an artist’s practice. Participation is strictly by invitation only. Galleries are carefully selected with the aim of offering the best international laboratories for the production of contemporary art. The curatorial cooperation with the participating gallery owners is an integral element of the concept and reflects the desire to show the public a different and ever-surprising spectrum of contemporary artists every year.
For its ninth edition, the-solo-project introduces POWER!, a thematic section dedicated to international contemporary art galleries that have demonstrated a commitment to support promising and emerging artists through a keen eye, savvy artistic direction and relevant programming.
Free shuttles will connect the-solo-project with Art Basel. Find the shuttle bus at the back of the Art Basel building. By tram you reach the fair with N°11, get off at ‘Freilager’, from there it’s 250m walk to Dreispitzhalle.
