Open to the public from June 19 to June 22, with Preview on June 18.
Volta Basel 2025 marks its 20th anniversary with a significant move to a new, larger venue. Located just 200 metres from the heart of Art Week, the expansion signals a major moment of growth for the fair. The 2025 edition pays homage to the city of Basel by offering local residents complimentary access to the fair on Friday 20 June from 11:00 to 17:00. This initiative acknowledges the city’s enduring support and invites the local community to explore and collect contemporary art from around the world, connect with galleries and artists, and engage with a broad spectrum of cultural voices. Celebrating two decades of championing new and emerging contemporary art, VOLTA Basel 2025 hosts over 65 galleries from more than 20 countries, including Switzerland, France, Norway, South Africa, the USA, Czech Republic, Belgium and Germany. The fair invites visitors to immerse themselves in a global celebration of artistic discovery, diversity, and connection.

MENA Pavilion
The MENA Pavilion is a newly introduced dedicated exhibition platform highlighting galleries from the Middle East and North Africa, including Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Egypt, Iran and Lebanon. Some galleries make their European debut, while others return with new perspectives. Curated by Beirut-based writer and curator Randa Sadaka, the Pavilion showcases artistic voices from across the region. The MENA Pavilion offers visitors a rare opportunity to discover and acquire works from a region often underrepresented in the European art market.

Solo
This year’s solo section includes Trafo Gallery (Prague, Czech Republic), presenting Jakub Nepraš, whose mixed-media and digital works explore urgent global themes such as environmentalism, technology and consumption. ADRIAN SUTTON GALLERY (Paris, France; Brussels, Belgium) exhibits a solo presentation by Czech painter Adéla Janská.

Newcomers to the fair include Galerie One (Paris, France), presenting Liu Bolin, known for his performative work and collaborations with institutions such as the United Nations, The Louvre and Centre Pompidou. Graham Contemporary (Johannesburg, South Africa) brings bold, colour-driven works by Zimbabwean painter Marc Standing. Fabienne Levy (Lausanne; Geneva, Switzerland) showcases Adriel Visoto and Basel-based Mattania Bösiger.

Women on the Rise: A Gendered Power Shift?

Exploring the increasing prominence of women in the art world, this panel examines whether gender equity is becoming a reality for artists and gallerists. Speakers include Chus Martínez, Head of the Institute Art Gender Nature, FHNW Academy of Art and Design, Marie Isabelle Poiere Troyano, Artist and Loewe Craft Prize Shortlisted artist, and Kimia Nakhaei, International Manager of Mojdeh Gallery, Iran.

Basel residents are invited to enjoy a complimentary day at VOLTA on Friday 20th June. As a gesture of appreciation for the city’s long-standing support of the fair – VOLTA says thank you. This special initiative invites the local community to explore and collect a diverse range of contemporary art from around the world, discover local and international galleries, and connect with artists and curators.

From Local to Global – How Artists and Galleries Break Through

This evening panel discusses the pathways through which artists and galleries transition from local recognition to international acclaim, highlighting the support systems necessary for such growth. Moderated by curator and art historian Carrie Scott. Speakers include Keabetswe Boccomino, Curator of Afrinova; Katharina Brandl, Head of Visual Arts at Pro Helvetia; Lee Cavaliere, Artistic Director, VOLTA; and Stevenson Dunn Jr., Co-Founder of The Bishop Gallery.
