12th Gwangju Biennale: Imagined Borders
The first Gwangju Biennale featured 660 artists from 58 countries, exhibiting over 817 artworks. The theme “Beyond the Borders” conveyed a message of global citizenship that transcended divisions between ideologies, territories, religion, race, culture, humanity, and the arts. Twelve years later, the 12th Gwangju Biennale themed “Imagined Borders” presents two international programmes: the GB Commission and the Pavilion Projects to explore the founding principles of the Biennale: democracy, human rights and peace.
The Biennale involves different venues around the city: the Gwangju Biennale Exhibition Hall, the Asia Culture Center and different other selected locations in Gwangju Metropolitan City.
