Feria Material, Vol. 12

The 12th edition of Feria Material takes place at the newly renovated Maravilla Studios in Mexico City’s Atlampa neighbourhood. Bringing together 78 exhibitors from 21 countries – with over half from Latin America – the fair features bold contemporary work, emerging voices, and established artists across a variety of media. Alongside gallery presentations, Material offers a vibrant public programme of talks, performances, and special projects, including citywide initiatives such as Material Monday, which activates local galleries and engages visitors in a dynamic exploration of the city’s art scene. The fair serves as a hub for collectors, curators, and art enthusiasts to discover new work, connect with artists, and experience the energy of contemporary art in Mexico.

Another major announcement for this edition is the debut of the independent spaces that make up the 3rd Generation of Material’s Proyectos programme (2026—2027).
Proyectos is a two-year programme offering support, professional workshops, personalised mentorship, and free space at Material fairs to independent curatorial initiatives in Mexico.

Material’s performance programme, “Immaterial”, presents two works at Casa del Lago UNAM during Mexico City Art Week. On Wednesday, 4 February, Australian artist Ivan Cheng premiere “Mood Ring” (“Temor Teflon”) in Latin America for the first time. Closing the programme at this venue, Adriana Lara presents Jessy Bulbo as part of her “Red Social” project on Friday, 6 February.

The Vocal conversation programme takes place within the fair’s forum space, featuring relaxed talks on collector and patron groups in Mexico. Running from 6 to 8 February, these sessions will be held in Spanish and aim to explore the dynamics, relationships, and structures that shape art collecting in the country.

Material Monday marks a citywide circuit of exhibition openings across local galleries participating in the fair. Visitors can explore more than 15 venues simultaneously with a free shuttle running along the gallery route. The day concludes with a party in the Doctores neighbourhood.
