Design Miami

Design Miami Pavilion, Meridian Avenue and 19th Street

Design Miami is the global forum for design. Each fair brings together the most influential collectors, gallerists, designers, curators and critics from around the world in celebration of design culture and commerce.

Design Miami is more than a marketplace for design, where the world’s top galleries gather to present museum-quality exhibitions of 20th and 21st century furniture, lighting and objets d’art. Each show balances exclusive commercial opportunities with progressive cultural programming, creating exciting collaborations with designers and design institutions, panels and lectures with luminaries from the worlds of design, architecture, art and fashion, and unique commissions from the world’s top emerging and established designers and architects. This year Design Miami Celebrates its 10th anniversary.

Design Miami Sectors:

Galleries | At the core of the Design Miami forum is a marketplace for collectible design, amid which the most reputable international design galleries present curated exhibitions of museum-quality furniture, lighting and objets d’art, attracting the highest level of private and public collectors of historical and contemporary design. The galleries invited to exhibit in Design Miami deal mainly in exceptional design objects from the advent of Modernism (circa 1900) to the present day, with select galleries specializing in outstanding 18th and 19th century antiques.

Curio | Design Curio is Design Miami’s new exhibition platform which invites designers, curators, innovators and gallerists to present cabinets of curiosity throughout the fair. Each Curio will reveal a total environment of objects, textures, artifacts and ideas that challenge and contextualize familiar design narratives. The program spans the twentieth and twenty-first centuries, and emphasises surprising installations of scientific and technological research alongside handcraft and creative production. The Curios are interspersed amongst Design Miami’s core galleries, infusing the fair’s exhibition program with inventive snapshots of today’s design landscape.

Commission | Each December, Design Miami commissions early-career architects to build a designed environment for the fair’s entrance as part of its Design Commissions program.

Collaborations | Design Miami collaborates with institutions, partners and sponsors to present newly commissioned works of design at each fair. These collaborations take the shape of immersive installations, curated exhibitions and unique objects that celebrate design innovation and express keen enthusiasm for design patronage.

Talks | Design Miami’s Design Talks program presents the design world’s most compelling current topics, bringing together the creatives, collectors and critics actively influencing design discourse and production. Presented by The Surf Club Hotel and Residences, the 2014 Talks Series takes place from December 3-5, 3-4pm and 6-7pm. The full talks program will be announced in November.

Satellites | Design Miami invites designers, businesses and institutions to create unique exhibitions with strong curatorial and educational perspectives. Each satellite program reflects a contemporary view onto what’s happening in the design world at large.

Design Log | Design Log is Design Miami’s online forum dedicated to exposing and examining the layered world of design. Publishing commissioned criticism, market news, interviews, studio visits and more, Design Log gains exclusive access to the perspectives of the designers, critics, collectors and gallerists who form our understanding of good design.
