As part of “On Site”, FIAC settles on the Avenue Winston Churchill between the Petit and Grand Palais for the duration of the fair. A unique moment in the history of public art in Paris.

The avenue will be closed to traffic during the fair making the street accessible exclusively to pedestrians, thus recreating the original esplanade of the 1900 World Fair. Some ten works will be installed on the road and its environs, offering Parisian and international visitors an open-air experience of contemporary art. Two works, created specifically for the site, are especially emblematic of this bold gesture: the first, by French artist Jacques Villeglé, is a quote by philosopher Henri Michaux “l’Art est ce qui aide à tirer de l’inertie” (“Art is what helps draw us out of inertia”) spelled out in large letters on the ground; In the central axis between the two Palais, American artist Lawrence Weiner’s characteristic phrases  – in this work describing ascendant and descendant movements – will visually rhythm the space.
