The 59th Venice Biennale: The Milk of Dreams
The 59th Biennale Arte "The Milk of Dreams", curated by Cecilia Alemani, wants to help us imagine new forms of coexistence.
The 59th edition of the Venice Art Biennale, under the title of “The Milk of Dreams”, opens to the public on April 23rd and will remain open until November 27th. The curator Cecilia Alemani, the first Italian woman to curate an Art Biennale, wants to record the convulsions of our times and help us imagine new forms of coexistence. The centre of the stage is returned to women and the crisis of man – understood as the white male subject – as the fulcrum of the universe, is questioned.
80 countries are participating this year, 5 of which for the first time at the Venice Art Biennale and 30 Collateral events are taking over the entire city. For the first time open the Pavilions of the Republic of Cameroon, Namibia, Nepal, Sultanate of Oman and Uganda. Republic of Kazakhstan, Kyrgyz Republic and the Republic of Uzbekistan finally participate with their own Pavilion. An artist-led initiative comprising of artist/s who are first-time representatives from a marginalised or underrepresented group in their respective country or a first-time country participant at the Venice Biennale will offer visitors to Venice a route to discover these “firsts” at the global art world event.
