Café

Café La Habana

Café La Habana has changed very little since it opened in 1954. For more than six decades, it has served excellent coffee from the state of Veracruz and also sells the beans by the kilo. As in many Mexican cafés, it offers “café lechero”: one or two shots (depending on the customer’s preference) of very strong espresso served in a large glass and topped up with hot milk.

Café La Habana is more is a great place to have breakfast in the city. It’s good to start with a cup of “lechero” and a piece of sweet bread baked in-house, and than to move on to a plate of green “chilaquiles” topped with a fried egg. Other classic breakfast dishes include “huevos motuleños” (fried eggs served over fried tortillas with refried black beans and slices of plantain), green and red enchiladas, and “huevos al gusto” (eggs cooked with a choice of ingredients such as ham, chorizo or beans).

For lunch, Café La Habana offers a “menú ejecutivo”, a type of “comida corrida” that is affordably priced for workers in the area. At dinner time, the menu features a wide selection of classic Mexican dishes, including enchiladas, pozole and tostadas, among many others.
