Ottilia Heritage

In Copenhagen's Carlsberg City District, Ottilia Heritage occupies the Maltmagasinet, a malt warehouse built in 1881 for Carl Jacobsen, the brewer and art collector whose collection later founded the Ny Carlsberg Glyptotek. Convinced that even an industrial building should be beautiful, Jacobsen asked architect Vilhelm Dahlerup to give the warehouse its castle-like presence.

Brøchner Hotels opened the suites in early 2026 as an extension of the adjoining Hotel Ottilia. Designed by Morten Hedegaard and Mette Fredskild, the 14 suites are led by the building’s industrial architecture, letting existing features act as the primary statement pieces. Listed steel staircases, vaulted ceilings and arched windows stand out against a muted palette of taupe and grey, and Blinkenberg handcrafted the bed frames and side tables from Douglas fir salvaged on site. Art runs through the building. Bronze figures by sculptor Hanne Varming appear in the suites, a tube-light installation by Niclas Hoflin spirals up through the lobby atrium, and ceramics by Hiiri are hidden throughout the hotel. Dipylon Hall, once the brewery's entrance gate and now the shared lounge, hosts rotating exhibitions of local artists around an open fire.

On the top floor, the restaurant Tramonto looks out over the city through floor-to-ceiling windows. It serves an organic breakfast in the morning and Italian classics in the evening, while its rooftop bar comes alive in summer with cocktails and live music. On the ground floor, AIRE Ancient Baths offers a thermal circuit inspired by Roman and Greek bathing rituals, where busts and furniture from Carl Jacobsen's own collection furnish the spaces.
