Rosewood
One of the capital's finest hotel
Rosewood London occupies the former headquarters of the Pearl Assurance company, an Edwardian building on High Holborn completed around 1914, whose façade and dome have been carefully restored. Guests arrive through a carriage arch and a courtyard that give the hotel the air of a private manor house in the middle of the city, and inside a Pavonazzo marble staircase rises through all seven floors beneath the cupola. The hotel opened in 2013 as Rosewood’s first address in Europe, with interiors by Tony Chi and Associates that recall a series of elegant London homes. Its 306 rooms and suites include the Grand Manor House Wing, a six-bedroom suite with a private lift, its own street entrance and even its own postcode. Caricatures by Gerald Scarfe line the walls of Scarfes Bar, and the Holborn Dining Room fills the former banking hall, both designed by Martin Brudnizki. The public spaces also host a changing programme of contemporary art.
