The Ned
The hotel is located inside an historic building in the heart of the city
The Ned occupies the former Midland Bank headquarters on Poultry, a Portland stone building designed by Sir Edwin Lutyens and completed in 1939, opposite James Stirling’s No 1 Poultry. Soho House and Sydell Group turned it into a hotel and members’ club in 2017. The vast ground-floor banking hall keeps its green verdite columns and walnut counters, and today it holds several restaurants, among them Cecconi’s and The Nickel Stage, a cocktail bar with live music. The rooms draw on the 1920s and 1930s, with brass and mahogany furniture, patterned fabrics and vintage pieces, and the Heritage rooms on the fifth floor keep many of Lutyens’s original features. Below ground, the old strongroom is now a members’ bar lined with safety deposit boxes and entered through a 20-tonne circular door. On the roof, Ned’s Club has a heated pool with views of St Paul’s Cathedral.
