Gran Hotel de México

It’s no wonder that this historic, Art Nouveau hotel has earned a reputation as being one of the most beautiful structures in all of Mexico City.

The building of The Gran Hotel Ciudad de México dates back to 1899 and it was known as the Mercantile Center, the most exclusive store in South America. The interiors are stunning: particularly notable are its art nouveau details, curving staircase and antique elevator — but the true showstopper is the incredible Tiffany stained-glass ceiling, designed by Jacques Grüber in 1885.

The property was turned into a hotel in 1968, coinciding with the celebration of the Olympic Games in Mexico City. Guests can dine at either of the two restaurants or enjoy a drink on the rooftop terraced bar overlooking the Zócalo, the main plaza in the city centre.
