Château Voltaire

Château Voltaire is the personal project of Thierry Gillier, founder of Zadig & Voltaire, who imagined a hotel where travellers from all over the world would mix with a lively Parisian crowd. Opened in 2021 on rue Saint-Roch, in the 1st arrondissement, it brings together three buildings from the 17th and 18th centuries behind a façade listed as a Historic Monument. Franck Durand oversaw the artistic direction, while the architecture studio Festen (Charlotte de Tonnac and Hugo Sauzay) designed spaces that follow the existing structures and pair plain materials with refined ones.

The 32 rooms and suites are spread over five floors, and each one is different because it follows the original layout of the buildings. They range from a room tucked under the eaves to others that look out over avenue de l’Opéra. On the fourth floor, the Suite Voltaire is a full apartment, where a dining room opens onto a winter garden and a planted terrace designed by Louis Benech. The suite can also host private dinners and events.

Brasserie L’Émil serves a contemporary Mediterranean menu without a break from noon to late evening. The bar La Coquille d’Or fills up from early evening and stays open past midnight. Below ground, a wellness area with a pool, sauna, cold plunge and treatments is also open to non-residents.
