AMOY

The AMOY draws its inspiration from the unique character of its location – Far East Square—a collection of shophouses dating back more than 170 years, which were painstakingly conserved with a theme of “Old Meets New, East Meets West”.

The location was once the landing site of Chinese immigrants arriving by boat to seek better fortunes and a better life in the far east. Against this historically rich backdrop, and blessed with a bustling location at the heart of the CBD, we set out to design the AMOY to give our guests an experiential glimpse into the Chinese Diaspora of years past. For example, the first thing our forefathers did upon arriving in Singapore was to build a temple to honour the gods for their safe voyage. Therefore, the AMOY’s entrance, as the first touch point for our guests, opens to the Fuk Tak Chi Museum. This was the original temple built and presents a one-of-a-kind setting for guests to relive the experience of our forefathers in a comfortable setting with the trappings of modern technology.

This story telling is carried through into the interiors of the hotel, which are also designed to mirror the life, love and tribulations of Singapore’s early Chinese immigrants. The rooms are thoughtfully designed to include heritage accents with carefully selected furniture like traditional Chinese stools and porcelain basin. The idea is to recreate the living experience of the early Chinese settlers with a modern and contemporary twist. No two rooms are alike, in terms of layout and furnishings. Our guests will therefore walk through the vicarious path of the Chinese immigrants right at the heart of the business and financial district of cosmopolitan Singapore.
