Bistrot Paul Bert
A benchmark for traditional French bistrot cooking, beloved by locals and visitors alike.
Bistrot Paul Bert is one of Paris’s most iconic addresses, a bustling, family-owned spot in the 11th arrondissement that’s become a must-visit spot for anyone craving the comfort and precision of classic French cuisine. Opened at the turn of the 21st century but steeped in vintage charm – chalkboard menus, mosaic-tiled floors, antique mirrors, and white-aproned servers – this lively, three-room bistro feels timeless.
The food is hearty and generous, with a menu that changes with the seasons: feuilleté of sweetbreads with mushrooms, roast venison with cranberries and celeriac purée, plump white asparagus, côte de bœuf for two, or an impeccably executed steak au poivre. Desserts are equally indulgent, from a towering soufflé to a Paris-Brest filled with praline buttercream. Wine takes center stage here, with a meticulously curated cellar of over 500 mostly French, often natural labels – a passion of owner Bertrand Auboyneau.
