Amator
Located in Copenhagen’s quiet Østerbro district, Amator is an intimate café conceived by Polish chef Mateusz ‘Mati Pichci’ Sarnowski, whose experience includes Noma and Atelier September. Open for breakfast and lunch, the café serves seasonal, vegetable-led dishes alongside pastries, fresh juices and coffee, with its signature French-style omelette taking centre stage.
The 50-square-metre space was designed by Polish architect Adam Wierciński as a contemporary interpretation of a home dining room. Scandinavian restraint meets Polish craftsmanship through solid oak, raw steel, linen and bespoke furniture, while shelves of vinyl records, custom speakers and jars of homemade preserves add to the domestic atmosphere. A flexible communal table can be rearranged for larger gatherings, reflecting the café’s emphasis on conviviality and sharing.
In the evening, Amator occasionally transforms into a candlelit setting for private dinners, extending Sarnowski’s idea of a welcoming dining room beyond the traditional café format.
