sketch occupies a Georgian townhouse on Conduit Street, designed by James Wyatt in 1779 and later home to the Royal Institute of British Architects and to Christian Dior's London atelier. Mourad Mazouz opened it in 2002 with chef Pierre Gagnaire as a place for experimentation spread across several rooms. Gagnaire's modern French cooking is served in the Michelin-starred Lecture Room & Library, and the house also includes the woodland-themed Glade, the Parlour and the East Bar, known for its egg-shaped pod toilets. The Gallery, its best-known room, works as a brasserie with classics such as lobster fricassée, cod brandade and beef tartare, and serves afternoon tea accompanied by a string trio. Over the years the room has been reinterpreted by artists including Martin Creed, David Shrigley and Yinka Shonibare. Since January 2026 it has hosted The Gathering by Jonathan Baldock, whose ceramic masks, flower sculptures and wool cocoons fill India Mahdavi's yellow interior.
