Once a bar that was really only for locals in the know, Bósforo is now visited by mezcal lovers from all over the world.

Hidden behind rusty doors on Calle Luis Moya in the Centro Histórico is Bósforo, a minimalist bar specializing in mezcal, an agave-based spirit that resembles a slightly smokier tequila.

Many of the bottles here are ultra-artisanal, sourcing not just from Oaxaca also from Michoacan, Guerrero, Puebla, San Luis Potosi, and other regions and producers that aren’t normally included in such selections. Trust the bartender to choose your pour and ask for the bottle’s backstory as you sip the night away.
