El Califa de Léon

El Califa de León is an unpretentious taco spot that has captured global attention with its Michelin-starred flavours.

El Califa de León is a humble 9-square-meter taco kiosk in the San Rafael neighborhood of Mexico City, has made history by earning a Michelin star, becoming the world’s first taqueria to receive this prestigious recognition. Opened in 1968 by Juan Hernández González and now run by his son Mario, the kiosk offers a simple yet extraordinary menu of four types of beef tacos, praised for their quality and simplicity.

The focus here is not on fine dining or fancy décor—there are no embroidered tablecloths or art-worthy plates—just a small, unpretentious space where the magic happens on a scorching hot steel grill.
