Albania 2026
Title: A Place in the Sun
Commissioner: Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Sport
Curator: Małgorzata Ludwisiak
Exhibitor: Genti Korini
A three-channel video work combines live acting, puppetry, animation, and an original score within a fictional theatre staged in Zaum, a transrational experimental language developed by Russian Futurist poets. Created without grammar or syntax to decompose social order, the irrationality of Zaum is used here to reach the limits of language and allow space for new communication.
The exhibition diagnoses Albania as a “somewhere place” defined by internal and external projections, while serving as a poetic expression for minor languages and invisible cultures. A primary reference is the 1916 “Albanian Issue” of the magazine “Bloodless Murder”, published by a Petrograd-based avant-garde group. The publication satirised nationalistic pretensions by portraying Albania through orientalist fantasy and civilisational hierarchies.
By linking current anxieties to the unsettled dreams of a century ago, “A Place in the Sun” creates a speculative stage where history, fantasy, and ideological imagination overlap.
