Armenia 2017 – Collegio Armeno Moorat-Raphael

Armenia is represented by Jean Boghossian, a Brussels-based Lebanese artist, sculptor, and painter of Armenian descent; together with Rafael Megall, Miro Persolja.

Boghossian‘s exhibition takes its title, “Fiamma Inestinguibile”, from a blowtorch flame which the artist uses as a brush, leading to a passionate quest as flames transform to create inextinguishable art. The artist will be showcasing the most advanced results of his painting experiences using diverse techniques and materials developed with fire, flame, smoke, pigments, and water. Objects burned often include canvas, paper, books, chairs, and paintings, at times leaving behind patterns of perforation, using distinctive and diverse techniques.

The works of Armenian artist Rafael Megall confronts the complex relationship between man and nature. In his paintings the presence of animals, as well as plant life, vaunt their independence from man. The title of the exhibit highlights the constant presence of danger for man, even when he feels safe within the boundaries of his environment. Megall, therefore, turns the panther into a metaphor of the threat that can hide behind an image of beauty, while using lush nature as an allusion to lost paradises.

The third artist of Armenian Pavilion is Miro Persolja. His exhibition “Border no Border” presents some paintings following the theme “Border no Border” to showcase how, through the language of Art, some walls that divide nations can smoothly disappear.

The works will be displayed in two different venues: Collegio Armeno Moorat-Raphael, at Palazzo Zenobio, and Chiesa di Santa Croce degli Armeni, in Calle Dei Armeni.
