Title: In Another Man’s Yard: John Beadle, Lavar Munroe, and the Spirit of (Posthumous) Collaboration
Commissioner: John Cox
Curator: Krista Thompson
Exhibitors: John Beadle, Lavar Munroe
The exhibition presents a posthumous collaboration between the late John Beadle and contemporary artist Lavar Munroe. Both artists draw inspiration from Junkanoo, the Bahamian national processional festival, to create a dialogue rooted in local social practices and global issues.
The pavilion responds to the Biennale’s theme, by highlighting the use of discarded materials and collaborative processes. This approach draws attention to the undervalued and the “minor notes” within society and the art world. John Beadle, a painter and sculptor, utilised traditional techniques alongside found materials like cardboard and salvaged objects to address themes of migration and insecurity. Lavar Munroe’s interdisciplinary practice involves mixed-media painting, drawing, and cardboard sculpture. His work incorporates airbrush, collage, glass, and feathers to explore African diasporic symbolism, mythology, and spirituality.
