Jonathas de Andrade represents Brazil at the 59th Biennale di Venezia. De Andrade is a multidisciplinary artist who uses different media such as video, photography and installation. His work is centred on the effects of colonialism in Brazil and its role in constituting both national and individual identity. His works often feature a metaphorical and homoerotic representation of the male body.
During La Biennale di Venezia his works is featured – in addition to the Pavilion of Brazil at the Giardini della Biennale – also in “Penumbra“, a multimedia exhibition promoted by the Foundation In Between Art Film, opening on 20 April 2022 at the Ospedaletto and the Church of Santa Maria dei Derelitti in Venice.
