Impostor Cities
Title: “Impostor Cities”
Curator: David Theodore (McGill University)
Exhibitor: T B A / Thomas Balaban Architecte
Commissioner: Canada Council for the Arts
Impostor Cities visualizes new directions for Canadian architecture by celebrating its protean cities and buildings that cleverly pose as these cinematic doubles. Impostor Cities invites visitors to step inside an interactive audiovisual installation that challenges concepts of national identity and authenticity in an age where artifice in media becomes increasingly indistinguishable from reality. The Canada Pavilion will be wrapped in green screen material, accentuating the Pavilion’s distinct form, creating a new, iconic Impostor building visible across the Giardini. Impostor Cities will occupy both the real and the imaginary with select experiences made available to audiences worldwide through an online portal at www.impostorcities.com.
