Impostor Cities
Giardini, Giardini, Castello, Venice, Italy
Title: “Impostor Cities”
Curator: David Theodore (McGill University)
Commissioner: Canada Council for the Arts
The exhibition at the Canada Pavilion during the 17Th International Architecture Exhibition in Venice investigates the trend of using Canadian architecture in film and television standing for other iconic cities such as London, Tokyo or Paris. “Impostor Cities” reflects on the reasons that make Canada’s buildings so good at doubling as elsewhere in films. The exhibition features an interactive audiovisual installation challenging the concept of authenticity in the age of artifices in media and suggesting new points on view on Canadian architecture.
The exhibition is presented by Montreal architecture and design practice T B A.
