Estonia 2024
The exhibition reflects on the complexities of the modern world.
Title: Hora lupi
Commissioner: Maria Arusoo, Estonian Centre for Contemporary Art
Dramaturge: Eero Epner
Artist: Edith Karlson
In “Hora lupi,” abandonment becomes a canvas for exploring the human condition. Through clay and concrete sculptures, the space becomes a metaphor for human sadness and incompleteness, punctuated by cracks where redemption may emerge. The title references the mythical “hour of the wolf,” a time of transformation between darkness and dawn, symbolizing birth and death. The exhibit features a gallery of contemporary faces in self-portraits, echoing a memorial ensemble from the past. Karlson’s anthropomorphic figures, inspired by folklore, further delve into the animalistic nature of humanity, portraying both brutality and poetic gentleness. Ultimately, the exhibition reflects on the complexities of the modern world.
