Finland (Aalto) 2026
Title: Aeolian Suite
Commissioner: Juha Huuskonen, Frame Contemporary Art Finland
Curator: Stefanie Hessler
Exhibitor: Jenna Sutela
The exhibition presents a multisensory environment that transforms the venue into a windscape of sound and movement. The artwork is composed using meteorological data, musical instruments—including wind machines and a children’s woodwinds orchestra—and the winds of Venice and Helsinki. The project explores the intangible and unpredictable nature of wind as an atmospheric presence that transcends earthbound logic while remaining entangled with human planetary impact.
In this elemental drama, five Venetian winds—Tramontana, two Boras, Scirocco, and Garbin—act as central protagonists and guides for listening. These characters features identities inspired by shifting weather patterns, addressing environmental questions ranging from the mundane to the existential.
Developed in discussion with scientists, the work acknowledges the impossibility of modelling a system from within without changing it, choosing instead to tune into the environment and embrace the wind’s relational being.
