Germany 2017

Anne Imhof represents the German pavilion at the 57th International Art Exhibition—La Biennale di Venezia in 2017. Since May 2016, Imhof has worked on a spatially as well as temporally expansive work conceived especially for the pavilion. Her oeuvre bridges the divides between painting, sculpture, and installation as well as performance. The project on view is focussed on the communication and on the duality of the space itself, all the performers’s bodies are in a constant dialogue with baseball bats, amid bags as well as mats and sleeping bags, the movements they make are trained, captalized, they are not really moving they are trying to communicate, but are transforming into fading images.
