Title: ESCAPE ROOM
Commissioner: Fani Tsatsaia, Metropolitan Organization of Museum of Visual Arts of Thessaloniki (MOMUS)
Curator: George Bekirakis
Exhibitor: Andreas Angelidakis
The project transforms the pavilion into a contemporary reimagining of the Platonic Cave, situated within the context of post-truth and digital illusion. Angelidakis employs a hybrid practice that integrates architecture, visual arts, and digital media to examine notions of ruin, historicity, and cultural memory.
The installation approaches the Platonic allegory as a tool for probing a world saturated with cultural replicas. By focusing on the history of the pavilion itself, the work assembles elements that appear as contested truths, highlighting the entanglement of historical knowledge with nationalism and propaganda.
Angelidakis’s methodology utilizes fiction and the destabilisation of authenticity to probe the architecture of perception. The work explores the function of national pavilions as mechanisms that historically communicated political agendas, now viewed as sites for examining political choices and their transformation into art.
