Iceland 2026
Title: Pocket Universe
Commissioner: Icelandic Art Center
Curators: Margrét Áskelsdóttir, Unnar Örn Auðarson
Exhibitor: Ásta Fanney Sigurðardóttir
Titled “Pocket Universe”, the exhibition explores shifting perspectives through hope, imagination and belief, suggesting that a change in mindset can reveal new possibilities during times of instability.
Ásta Fanney Sigurðardóttir’s practice, described as a form of “spiritual fluxus”, blends sound, performance, moving image, sculpture and installation. The work avoids linear narratives, instead layering storylines and timelines to create a dream-like experience. Conceived as an encounter rather than a spectacle, it consists of a constellation of fragments that evolve through live actions and performances.
At the heart of the presentation is a moving image work featuring a character named “Creature Zero” searching for the “original rock”. The exhibition also features playful structures resembling games, alongside orbs, charms and talismans. By drawing on myths and mystical energies, the exhibition reflects on the role of faith in world-making and investigates how imagination can serve as a tool for restructuring reality.
