Italy 2025
The exhibition is dedicated to an expanded vision of the Mediterranean and its connections with neighbouring oceans.
Title: TERRÆ AQUÆ. L’Italia e l’intelligenza del mare
Commissioner: Angelo Piero Cappello
Curator: Guendalina Salimei
The Italian Pavilion explores the structural relationship between water and land, nature and artificiality, infrastructure and landscape, city and coast—elements that shape Italy’s identity and the delicate balance between environment, humanity, culture, and economy. The exhibition highlights the need to both preserve these relationships and reimagine them in response to pressing contemporary challenges.
By embracing diverse voices and perspectives, the Pavilion aims to awaken a collective intelligence capable of inspiring global renewal, starting from Italy’s coasts. These often-overlooked shores—historically rich meeting points of ecosystems, cultures, and traditions—call for a renewed approach that blends human action with poetry and respect. This idea resonates with Venice’s ancient “Sposalizio del Mare” ritual, where the Doge symbolically wed the sea, reaffirming its enduring significance.
