Commissioner: Armando Andrade de Lucio
Curators: Issela Ccoyllo, Matteo Norzi
Exhibitor: Sara Flores
The Pavilion of Peru presents “Sara Flores. From Other Worlds”, a solo exhibition by an artist from the Shipibo-Konibo People of the Peruvian Amazon. Forming part of the 61st International Art Exhibition, “In Minor Keys”, the presentation includes new large-scale paintings on wild-cotton canvas, ethereal mosquito-net shaped sculptures titled “Untitled (The Designs Come in Dreams)”, and the 2025 film “Non Nete (A Flag for the Shipibo Nation)”.
A soundscape of shamanic recordings introduces a synesthetic dimension, connecting spiritual journeys with the self-determination of the Shipibo Nation. The guiding thread is “kené”, an enigmatic design system that the artist advances through formal sophistication and conceptual depth. These works act as portals between ancestral knowledge and a sustainable future, positioning human and non-human life as a single entity.
The exhibition underscores an experimental practice that balances the strict geometric principles of “kené” with a cultural imperative for innovation. While the artist’s work is rooted in a childhood spent in the rainforest, the selection explores stylistic reconfiguration and has gained international recognition, including a 2024 collaboration with Christian Dior. The exhibition design highlights this experimental character, showcasing diverse sub-styles and formats, including the largest work the artist has produced to date.
