Little Review
Created through a longstanding relationship with the young women of the Youth Center for Socio-Therapy in Rudzienko, Sharon Lockhart’s “Little Review” project focuses on an unmediated expression of youth, collaboration as an essential means of sharing in others’ experiences, and the social potential of art making.
“Little Review” celebrates the distinct perspectives of the girls of the Youth Center for Socio-Therapy in Rudzienko, unifying their individual stories through a shared identification with Polish history and culture. The project’s namesake is the Mały Przegląd [Little Review], a historical newspaper supplement to the popular Nasz Przegląd [Our Review], written and edited entirely by children. Founded by Polish-Jewish pediatrician, influential pedagogue, and and writer Janusz Korczak, Mały Przegląd achieved the core tenant of his practice: “giving a voice to the young.” Published every Friday from 1926 to the start of World War II on September 1, 1939, it featured sections on politics, travel, sports, and culture, written by children functioning as correspondents from all over Poland.
